31/01/2012 - Spring 2012

I was delighted to have two prints selected for the annual Royal Scottish Academy open submission exhibition in November and then even more delighted to discover that I had been jointly awarded the Maude Gemmell Hutchison prize for my Night Herons print above. The prize was £200 which I intend to put towards my place on a Seabird Drawing Course, taking place in North Berwick in June 2012. The week will be overseen by some of my artistic heroes - John Busby, Greg Poole, Darren Woodhead and John Threlfall. An entire week of working alongside some very experienced artists and being taken to some of the best birding sites along the East Lothian coast - I can't wait!
New Kittie Jones Tea Towels!
I am really excited to have branched out into the world of tea towel design and will be launching my new tea towel at my British Birds 3 exhibition at the Watermill in March 2012 and as maker of the month at Concrete Wardrobe in June 2012. Watch this space for further details.

I was delighted to have this piece, Three Seagulls, accepted for the Annual Visual Arts Scotland exhibition which is on show at the Royal Scottish Academy from 4th February - 1st March.
31/10/2011 - Autumn 2011 news
I have been busy making work for a number of things over the last couple of months - I have a couple of drawings in the Scottish Drawing Competition at Paisley Museum until Saturday 26th November. They are both charcoal and chalk drawings - one of an amazing moorhen I spotted earlier in the year along the Water of Leith which had made its nest from old bits of Christmas tree, In the Bridge's Shadow. The other is a drawing of seagulls at night - despite being so common and often regarded as a pest seagulls are the most beautiful birds - Night Gulls.

Above is another response to the same subject matter of the moorhen, this time in screen print form. You can see this at the Edinburgh Printmakers Workshop Hidden City exhibition which opens on Saturday 12th November 2011.
I have a couple of pieces in the Christmas Show at Gallery Heinzel in Aberdeen, one of which is my Blackbird in a Sunset Bush painting inspired by the poetry of Norman MacCaig.

And finally, I'll have plenty of new card designs and a couple of new prints at my Open Studios this December -click here for more details.
Kittie Jones cards can be found in a number of new places including the Backgate Gallery in Pittenweem and Studio 222 in Newburgh, Fife.
14/02/2011 - Spring Exhibition News
After a very busy winter period I am now working on a new set of small screenprints taking inspiration once again from British birds and animals. You can see what I've been up to on my blog here: http://flyingcreature.wordpress.com/. The prints will be launched at the Watermill, Little Salkeld on Saturday April 2nd.
I have a couple of pieces in the annual ESSA exhibitions at the RSA here in Edinburgh and my prints are part of a group print show called Print Run at the Outbye Gallery near Pittenweem in Fife.
10/10/2010 - Winter exhibition news
I have been busy working away at a new body of work for Red Barn Gallery, Melkinthorpe, Cumbria. The new work has been created from drawings made in the spring directly from nature. This is a relatively new way of working for me. To draw from living birds and successfully develop them into more sustained works you have to be able to capture movement and form very quickly, whilst also making drawings and notes from the surroundings. Memory also plays a part as you remember what drew you into a scene in the first place.
I am also working on some drawings for In Response 2 at An tallas Solais in Ullapool. The show is made up of 7 invited artists who were asked to respond to the poems of Scottish poet Norman MacCaig.
After all of this I will also be having a show at Howden Park Art centre in December.
I will also be running a one-day workshop at Leith School of Art, for more information visit the School's website. I am running a printing without a press workshop at Howden Park Centre in December - more information here.
04/08/2010 - Summer Schools, Studios and Screenprints
I've been busy running the Leith School of Art Summer School whilst also doing some teaching myself. I had a great weekend teaching at Bridgehouse Art in Ullapool at the end of June and have just finished teaching 10 - 12 year olds for a week at Leith School of Art.
Open Studios this weekend sees some of my recent screen prints on display as well as other new work. These screen prints can also be found at Printroom, London.
I am working towards two exhibitions coming up in the Autumn: firstly I will be showing work at Red Barn Gallery, Melkinthorpe, Cumbria and I will have a solo show in December at Howden Park Art Centre.
29/03/2010 - Cumbrian Prints
My latest screenprints will be on show at The Watermill, Little Salkeld from April 17th - 16th July 2010.
I have made a set of small prints inspired by the wildlife I have seen and sketched at the Mill in the last year.
The Private View will take place on Saturday 17th April from 7pm - 9pm - please come along!
You can also see a selection of my prints at Edinburgh Printmakers and Hornseys in Ripon, North Yokshire.
29/11/2009 - Coburg Open Studios 5th and 6th December 2009
It is the annual Christmas open studios at Coburg House on 5th and 6th December this year. Always a great event with a wide variety of artists and craftspeople selling work from their studios at a reduced price.
You can also see my work at Frames Gallery, Perth, Peter Potter Gallery, Haddington and Hornseys Gallery in Ripon over the Christmas period.
21/10/2009 - Looking Up Exhibition, Leith School of Art

My new show opens on Monday 25th October for three weeks in the Corridor Gallery at Leith School of Art.
My most recent body of work looks at weathervanes in and around Edinburgh.
I was drawn to this subject matter as an extension of ideas I have been looking at based around how nature occupies spaces within urban environments in unexpected ways. The idea of the city being watched over by a host of golden cockerels can remind us of the prevalence of nature even within the built up environment.
04/10/2009 - Mainhill Gallery, Jedburgh
I have some work in 'A Finer Line'. This is a group show at the Harestanes Countryside Visitor Centre through Mainhill Gallery, Ancrum. The show opens on Saturday 10th October and runs until the end of the month.
04/10/2009 - Jonathan Avery, Glasgow
Some of my work can be seen in the new Gallery at the Jonathan Avery Showroom in Glasgow throughout October.
